Here is the last part in my friendship series! In this last installment, I want to list for you some of the people that you should consider the greatest friends in your life. Do you think of them as such?
First, your mother. Your mother should always be counted as among your very dear friends. She knows everything about you, can read you like a book and longs to teach and guide you. Can you willingly tell her everything? Is she your greatest confidant? Are you willing to take her advice? Do you give her the respect she deserves? A good rule of thumb to remember is that if you cannot tell your mother about it, it is probably not right!
Second, your siblings. This may be hard to believe and remember sometimes, but God has given you the very wonderful treasure of having some great friends with you all the time! These treasures are your siblings! Strive, strive, strive young maiden to be the best and truest friend to these dear ones. Some day you will be on your own and it will be the memories of your times with your siblings that you will treasure. If you are one who is blessed enough to have sisters, they should truly be your greatest and closest companions!
Thirdly, solitude. Yes, this may seem silly, but do you consider solitude as your friend? So many people have to always be in the company of others to feel special and loved. Can you embrace solitude as a friend? Remember, we as Christians need to be following Jesus’ example and often times Jesus himself sought solitude. So many great people and great ideas have come from people being alone and simply thinking for themselves!
Lastly, but of course the most important, God. Your relationship with God is so very important. This is the only true friendship that will last all of eternity. God should be your very best friend. He is the one who made you and He will always be faithful, understanding, genuine, true and trustworthy. He will love you no matter what and understands you better than you may feel you understand yourself sometimes! I pray that He will become a more real friend to you daily.
“Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit- fruit that will last…” John 15: 13-16a
